Extensive Community Involvement

As a large group of members committed to community spirit, we enjoy the opportunity to get involved and make an impact on special causes. At CMDA, we support everything from large cancer foundations to smaller charitable and local organizations:

  • The annual Vehicles and Violins Gala which gives a sneak peak at the Calgary International Auto and Truck Show has helped us raise over $2.9 million since it began. These funds have gone to support 20 different organizations including the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Alzheimer Society of Calgary and Kid’s Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta.
  • In 1998 the CMDA established an annual Entrance Scholarship Endowment Award of $6,500.00 for students entering the Automotive Management Training Program or Full-Time Technology or Apprenticeship Training Program offered by the Transportation Department at SAIT.
  • In 1994 the CMDA established the Calgary Motor Dealers Association Memorial Scholarship to be awarded annually to worthy students attending post-secondary institutions who are seeking a career in the automobile industry. These scholarships will be awarded in recognition of past members of the CMDA for their contribution to the industry.
  • In 1988 the CMDA donated a Handi-Bus to the Calgary Handi-Bus Association. Until it was retired on August 31, 1998, our bus logged 611,119 kilometers in 10 years of continuous service, providing over 66,000 passenger trips. The CMDA is proud to provide a "Full Bus Sponsorship" for one of the newly designed mini-bus units that were placed in service in March 1995. This vehicle has logged 363,462 kilometers as of November 15, 2001, representing 29,420 passenger trips.
  • The CMDA donated a new vehicle as a runner-up prize for the Miracle Home Campaign to raise funds for the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation.
  • Each December, since 1991, 100% of CMDA Members have joined in the Calgary Inter-Faith Society's annual Mayor's Christmas Food Bank Drive by collecting donations at their dealerships.
  • For the past 18 years, the CMDA has been a sponsor of the MDA Celebrity Charity Golf Classic which has raised over $2 million in support of Special Olympics Alberta.
  • In 2013 the CMDA donated another Handi-Bus to the Calgary Handi-Bus Association.
  • CMDA awards 16 scholarships of $1,000.00 each annually to students attending SAIT in the Transportation Department.
  • The CMDA has donated over $25,000.00 to the PARTY (Prevent Alcohol and Risk Related Trauma in Youth) Calgary Program, designed to expose teenagers to the tragic consequences of drinking and driving, non-compliance to seat belt legislation and dangerous behaviours.
